Statement on IFP Meeting Sat, 12th July

Statement by Malachy Steenson relating to the meeting held on Sat 12th July, organised by the IFP (Irish Freedom Party)

Statement Text (Release Date: 14th July, 2025)

A year ago I was elected to DCC on a broad platform of issues which included opposition to mass migration into the country.

I represent the North Inner City which is now less than 50% Irish born. I have done my utmost to represent those who voted for me, not as extremists but as genuinely concerned parents, grandparents, and ordinary decent people with genuine concerns.

I work with a team of experienced activists who see the need to develop a broader movement. One that can deliver change. This can only be done through unity. A unity of purpose.

It’s in this context that I attended a meeting on Saturday. The meeting was not organised by me but by the IFP, and was chaired by Jim Ferguson to see if a common platform can be found for a way forward. Personally I was not comfortable with him chairing it. The meeting was useful in establishing positions. It’s one of a series of meetings which I have attended up and down the country organised by a range of different groupings.

Also, there is toxicity permeating throughout this movement which now must be called out. They engineer division and actively undermine. They call for unity and oppose when people work towards it. They thrive on chaos and oppose those who try to bring order.

There are many of us trying to unite and find common ground beyond the egos and multiple clicks and likes. I will continue to work with such well meaning people and progress is being made.

And I will reiterate there is no place in the nationalist movement for loyalists and certainly they should be given no platform at any protest.

Is Mise,
Councillor Malachy Steenson
